Known for their cycling tours, Backroads also offers a variety of adventure tours and multisport tours, that combine biking and walking with kayaking, rafting, snorkeling, surfing, camel riding and more. Partnering with AmaWaterways, they now offer bike & barge tours that combine river cruises with cycling tours.
Backroads promises to go above and beyond, with three tour leaders on every trip and two support vans on all cycling tours (no waiting for a van that’s already occupied). They give riders the option to choose among several expertly designed routes or activities each day, allowing guests to ride and explore at their own pace.
In addition, travelers can choose who they want to travel with: adults, families with younger kids, families with teens and 20-somethings, mothers and daughters, solo travelers, or your own private group.
Founded in 1972, with headquarters in the U.S. and an office in Italy, they specialize in reasonably priced Italy tours, Central Europe tours, and the Mediterranean. They are experts when it comes to Italy, and currently offer four escorted cycling tours through Italy.
Italy cycling tours include the hills and coastal villages of Tuscany, the Estrucean ruins and endless vineyards of Chianti, along the Po river past Renaissance architecture and vineyards of Piemonte, or Lake Garda, with its views of the Dolomites, vineyards and medieval villages!
Rides average about 30-45 miles a day, with some in mountainous areas, like Lake Garda, being more strenuous. Cycling tours include bikes (with assistance, mechanics and route support), hotels, most meals, and an experienced guide.
Central Holidays offers other specialty tours as well, including ski vacations, cooking classes, wine excursions, tours for art aficionados; religious tours, river cruises, and an exciting array of reasonably priced independent travel itineraries (some under $1000)!

They know the ins and outs of your destination, and are only too eager to give you the inside scoop.
Brendan’s Dublin Managing Director, Catherine Reilly, personally knows, inspects and selects each of their featured accommodations.
